Hen and Chicks are perennial succulents, hardy to zone 3, and great used as a low ground cover. Perfect in full sun and well draining soil, these drought tolerant plants are a nice addition to a rock garden. After a few years, the individual rosettes flower and die, but luckily there are plenty of chicks to continue the line. This is my first flowering hen and chick, and it’s very exciting to share! I have noticed that most succulents flower and then die back. Last year I had a pink stonecrop that did exactly that, but it reseeded itself and was back for a springtime visit.
