A look back on the garden and its role in life throughout a 4,000 year history brings us through the first Egyptian landscapes (hinted at through lotus ponds drawn in Hieroglyphics), to the gardens of Babylon, to aristocratic gardens, to public parks, to victory gardens, and now to sustainable living. The evolution is mind blowing. But all in all, a garden is a work of art, specific to the aesthetics and philosophy of the gardener and his or her time. Personally, I find a peaceful state of mind in the garden, bringing together a small spot of nature and it’s forces to observe and to nurture. A place to bond communities, friends, family, plants, insects, birds, and animals. A place to understand you and your little bit of earth.
