Perennial herbs are a great way to have favorite flavors year after year. Consider adding some of them to your garden. Plant in full sun and harvest as you wish. Hardy for zone 5, Chicago’s zone:
- Sage
- Lemon Balm
- Mints, including cat mint, chocolate mint, spearmint, (Be careful when planting mint, it can be invasive. Best in a container. This is an herb that can take part shade.)
- Oregano (nice ground cover)
- Thyme (also a nice ground cover, and tolerates light traffic)
- Chives
- Lavender
- Roman Chamomile
Some herbs that are self sowing
- Cilantro
- Dill (to control the spread of dill, which can get out of control, cut off the tops after it flowers and before seeds form)
- German Chamomile
