Summer rainy days provide a much needed cloud cover and cooling off with the added benefit of not having to water. If there’s thunder and lightning, refrain from going out with your metal tools (no need to rediscover electricity), but if it’s a nice drizzle, it can be a good day to meander and hand weed a little here and there. Weeds come out so easily when the ground is wet. If you don’t have stepping stones to maneuver through your garden, save the weeding for another day. Walking on and digging in wet soil compacts it so the soil becomes brick like when it dries, not a good for roots. The reason we want to see earthworms and add compost to our soil is to keep it light and fluffy. So the best bet on a rainy day is to relax.
