This year I added carrots to my new explorations.  I’ve never had the space or sun before to grow them properly….and honestly, I sometimes forget about root vegetables.  But it looks as if the carrots are ready.  It’s best to pull carrots only as you are ready to eat them.  A happy side to carrots, like lettuces and broccoli, is that they can be sown a second time.  Best done in July, the shade from taller plants will help them from getting too hot.  They take about two months to mature.  Carrots will benefit from a frost, making them sweeter!  Even though it is the 1st of August, I’m going to get a second sowing underway.
